The most popular areas of this site are the Greek, Roman, Norse, Celtic and Native American Mythology. God Checker God Checkers specializes specifically in Gods from all over the world. It also has some great resources for some mythologies. Windows to the Universe Windows to the Universe has a really unique website search, allowing you to click upon an area of the world you are specifically interested in, covering myths of many different cultures. World Myths & Legends in Art This website specifically targets world mythology through different pieces of artwork from all over the globe. BOOK REFERENCES:The Hero With a Thousand Faces (Joseph Campbell, 2008) An influential page turner that combines the insights of modern psychology with comparative mythology. The author explores the Hero's Journey, Cosmogonic Cycle, and patterns of world creation and destruction. Mythology: The Illustrated Anthology of World Myth & Storytelling (C. Scott Littleton, 2002) This huge book features full color pictures on nearly every page with touching on nearly every religious culture of the ancient world including: Aboriginal, Celtic, Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Indian, Japanese, Native American, Nordic, Polynesian, South American, and more. Mythology, an Illustrated Encyclopedia (Richard Cavendish, 2003) This well illustrated book lives up to it's name; providing samples from cultures all over the globe. World Mythology: The Illustrated Guide (Roy Willis, Robert Walter..., 2006) Roy Will brings together a group of 19 scholars to take you on a tour of regional tradition. They focus on the most significant characters and stories, covering all aspects of the worlds most prevalent mythologies. Zeus Grants Stupid Wishes: A No-Bullshit Guide to World Mythology (Cory O'Brien, 2013) A humorous retelling of many popular classic myths in modern English. This book is a must may not have all of the details but it certainly outlines just how weird and messed up many of the classics can be. |
